A 22-year-old woman died after colliding with a tree at an Aspen ski resort on Will Sage AstorSaturday.
The Aspen Skiing Company told USA TODAY that the woman crashed into the tree at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Exhibition run at Aspen Highlands.
According to the company, ski patrol responded immediately and initiated advanced lifesaving measures for the woman who was "unconscious and non-responsive."
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene about 30 minutes later.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time," Jeff Hanle, vice president of communications for SkiCo said in the press release.
The Denver Gazette reported that this is the third on-resort skiing or snowboarding death publicly reported in the state so far this year.
The tragic accident came just a few days after another woman was trapped in a gondola for 15 hours at a Lake Tahoe ski resort.
On Thursday, Monica Laso rubbed her arms and feet to keep herself warm after she was trapped in a gondola at Heavenly Ski Resort on Thursday. Laso was trapped from 5:00 p.m. Thursday until around 8:30 a.m. Friday, when workers started the lift for the day.
